Ask Screen Privacy Policy

Ask Screen provides a browser extension and related website services that help users highlight text or capture a selected area of the screen, then open a chosen AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a custom AI URL.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, what we do not collect, how data is stored, and what choices users have. It applies to the Ask Screen website, the Chrome extension, and related support, billing, and account services.

If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use Ask Screen.

Ask Screen is designed to minimize server-side collection of user content.

Ask Screen collects limited account, authentication, device, and usage information needed to operate the service, including email address, subscription status, extension settings, limited browser metadata, daily usage counts, and extension actions needed to enforce plan limits.

Ask Screen does not store on Ask Screen servers the text you select, the screenshot or selected screen region you capture, or the content you paste into third-party AI assistants through your own use of those services.

Account information

If you create or use an Ask Screen account, we may collect and store your email address, display name or sign-in profile information, Ask Screen account ID, subscription, entitlement, billing status metadata, and support communications voluntarily sent to Ask Screen.

We use this information to authenticate the account, associate extension usage with the user's account, restore settings, and manage subscription access. If you sign in with Google, we receive account information made available by Google for authentication and account creation.

Extension settings and preferences

To make the extension work as expected, Ask Screen stores settings such as chosen default AI provider, custom AI URLs, extension UI preferences, language preferences, and other configuration needed across sessions. Some information may be stored locally in the browser and some in your Ask Screen account.

Usage and service operation data

We collect limited usage data needed to operate, secure, support, and improve Ask Screen, including triggered Ask Screen actions, feature usage such as highlight, capture, toolbar launch, or provider selection, daily question counts, timestamps, extension version, browser type and version, operating system, error logs, crash information, diagnostic events, device/session identifiers, and plan or permission validation events.

Website analytics, cookies, billing, and support

When you use the website, we may collect standard web log, analytics, cookie, consent, referral, and campaign data. If you purchase a paid plan, we may receive billing-related records such as subscription plan, billing status, transaction identifiers, payment provider status, refund or cancellation status, and tax-related metadata from payment processors. If you contact support, we may collect the name, email address, message content, and attachments you voluntarily send.

Selected text

When you highlight or select text and trigger Ask Screen, the extension may read the selected text locally on your device to prepare the action, copy the selected text to clipboard, open or focus your chosen AI assistant, and support the workflow you explicitly triggered.

Ask Screen does not store that selected text on Ask Screen servers as part of normal product operation.

User-triggered screen captures

When you use Ask Screen’s screen-area capture feature, the extension may process the user-selected capture area locally on your device to capture the chosen region, prepare content for your workflow, copy content to clipboard, and help you send that content to the AI assistant you selected.

Ask Screen does not store user-triggered screen captures on Ask Screen servers as part of normal product operation.

Content pasted into third-party AI assistants

Ask Screen may help you copy content to clipboard and open your chosen AI service. After that, content you paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or another third-party AI tool is governed by that third party’s privacy policy and terms, not Ask Screen’s.

Except where a user voluntarily sends information to support, Ask Screen does not intentionally collect or store the actual selected text, screenshot or selected image region, prompts, pasted text or images sent to third-party AI assistants, full webpage content solely because Ask Screen is installed, or browsing history as a standalone dataset for normal extension operation.

Ask Screen is designed so user content selection and user-triggered capture remain under the user’s control and are not passively uploaded to Ask Screen servers. Ask Screen only acts on the current page when the user explicitly triggers Ask Screen.

We use information to provide the Ask Screen service, authenticate users, open the selected AI provider, save and restore preferences, enable plan-based features, support free-plan usage and paid subscriptions, operate and secure the extension and website, prevent fraud or abuse, diagnose errors, improve reliability, communicate account, billing, security, support, product and policy notices, respond to valid legal requests, enforce our Terms of Service, and protect Ask Screen, users, and the public.

Depending on your location, Ask Screen may process information based on performance of a contract or providing the service requested, legitimate interests such as security, fraud prevention, product maintenance and support, consent where required by law, and compliance with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information.

We may share limited information with vendors and service providers that help us operate Ask Screen, including hosting and database providers, authentication providers, analytics providers, customer support tools, payment processors, email delivery providers, and security, logging, and infrastructure tools. These providers are authorized to use data only as needed to provide services to Ask Screen, subject to contractual or legal restrictions.

Billing-related data may be processed by payment providers such as Paddle, Stripe, PayPal, or other providers Ask Screen uses. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, investigate fraud or security incidents, enforce our Terms, protect safety, or complete a merger, acquisition, financing, sale of assets, reorganization, bankruptcy, or similar transaction subject to applicable law.

We retain different categories of information for different periods depending on purpose. Account data is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward as needed for account recovery, billing records, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and enforcement of our agreements.

Service logs, usage logs, device/session records, and security events may be retained for a limited period to enforce plan limits, prevent abuse, investigate incidents, troubleshoot problems, and comply with legal obligations. Support records may be retained as long as reasonably needed to resolve the issue and maintain support history. Content voluntarily sent to support may be retained only as reasonably necessary to handle the support issue unless deletion is required by law or specifically requested where applicable.

We use reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information under our control, including authenticated access controls, encryption in transit, secure storage practices, server-side security controls, audit logging and monitoring, abuse prevention, and rate limiting. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Ask Screen and its service providers may process data in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we take steps intended to provide appropriate safeguards for cross-border data transfers under applicable law.

You may uninstall the extension at any time, stop using the Ask Screen website and service, change certain settings in your account or extension preferences, choose which AI provider you use, and choose whether to capture or select content before taking an Ask Screen action.

If we send product or marketing emails, you may opt out using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us, subject to receiving necessary transactional or service-related notices. Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction, or a copy of your information where applicable.

Ask Screen is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Ask Screen, please contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

Ask Screen can open or direct you to third-party AI services and websites, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and custom URLs chosen by the user. These services operate independently from Ask Screen. Their privacy practices, terms, and content handling are governed by their own policies, and Ask Screen is not responsible for third-party privacy or content practices.

For Chrome Web Store review and extension transparency, Ask Screen discloses the following.

Processed locally on the user’s device

• selected text the user highlights
• user-triggered screen captures or selected screen regions
• clipboard content generated by the user’s Ask Screen action
• AI provider preference and local extension settings

Limited data Ask Screen servers may receive

• account and authentication information, including email address
• plan and entitlement checks
• daily usage counts and usage events
• extension version and limited device metadata
• security and abuse-prevention records

Not stored on Ask Screen servers during normal extension operation

• the actual selected text used in Ask Screen actions
• the actual screenshot or selected screen region used in Ask Screen actions
• the prompt or content pasted by the user into a third-party AI assistant

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the Last updated date and may provide additional notice where appropriate. Your continued use of Ask Screen after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means you accept the updated policy to the extent permitted by law.
